What are some popular locations in Boston for an engagement proposal? Fan Pier Park in Seaport, the Arboretum, Boston Public Library, Commonwealth Ave, and Beacon Hill are all favorite locations to propose to your loved one. Boston Public Garden is an especially great choice for an engagement session because it offers a variety of spots in a natural setting, with a wonderful view of the city skyline in all directions.
There’s a unique beauty to photographing engagement proposals at night in Boston Public Garden during the earlier half of the year, with the shrubs and footbridge adorned with holiday lights. Thanks to this extra illumination, we can shoot without the intrusion of flash, preserving a sense of intimacy during your surprise proposal versus a photographer photobombing you with pops of light from the sidelines. As part of our collaboration, I’ll work closely with you to recommend spots within the park that tend to work best for engagement proposals. A location in Boston Public Garden that might look wonderful in the daytime may not have the same charm at night. We’ll need to consider the quality of the existing lights, foot traffic, and the level of privacy you are comfortable with. Prior to the session, I’ll share a document with you that confirms where we will be meeting, as well as suggestions on where to stand to capture the view you hope to see in the background.
My top tip with any proposal is to take your time. It’s your moment, so no need to rush. Nerves are understandably high leading up to the proposal, and the instinct can sometimes be to unintentionally speed through the kneel, “yes”, and ring exchange within a few seconds. Pacing your proposal allows your partner to cherish the impact of the surprise, while giving your photographer more opportunity to capture the nuances of your big moment.
