Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Boston Engagement Session
BOSTON ENGAGEMENT PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHER
I love photographing engagement proposals at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Not only is it a beautiful location, but bringing your loved one to the museum under the pretense that you are simply going to tour the exhibits is a great way to maintain the big surprise.
When considering an engagement proposal at the Gardner Museum, keep in mind that you’ll need to stage the proposal on the first floor, in the cloister corridor surrounding the courtyard. The cloister offers wonderful views of the plantings in the courtyard, and this is where you’ll find most visitors snapping selfies of themselves, using the garden as a backdrop. The museum rightfully maintains a policy to limit professional picture-taking, as they do not want photography to intrude on the experience of others attending the museum. By limiting our photography to the first floor, amongst the other guests posing for their own pictures by the courtyard, we can remain respectful of the space. After your engagement proposal indoors, we’ll then head outside to continue the session, with the nearby Back Bay Fens being a great choice with its natural setting in the city.
Keep in mind, although the museum’s courtyard is illuminated with natural light from above, the cloister itself is dimly lit, and flash is not allowed in the museum. As part of our collaboration, I’ll direct you where to propose for the best light, and I’ll share how we can work around the other guests present in the hallway. Speaking of other visitors, keep in mind that the museum is a popular destination and may not be the best choice if you (or your partner) prefer a space that is private. That said, weekdays are less crowded than weekends, and regardless of the day, proposing later in the afternoon closer to closing typically ensures fewer visitors are present.
