NEWBURYPORT BOSTON MATERNITY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

Though I still have a collection of sessions on hand to share from the fall, it seems fitting to post this wintry scene as we close out the year and celebrate the holidays. M & G booked their maternity portrait session for December back in early October, so little did we know we’d have a coating of snow this early in the season! I scouted a few locations in the area for our session and settled on this cozy wooded nook along the marsh in Newbury, a real gem with its hills, trees, and meadow. It’s also a fairly private spot, save for the occasional cross-country skier or dog walker!

This is definitely one of my favorite sessions as of late, and M & G sustained such a great spirit throughout, willing to brave the cold and tromp through the snow to reach spots I had scouted earlier and thought would make for pretty images. It was also a unique treat to shoot in the snow, which acts as a natural bounce card to diffuse the light and soften shadows. If you are thinking of shooting outdoors this time of year, it’s certainly possible, and with the sun low in the sky throughout the whole day, you can really schedule your session for any time and benefit from soft, pretty light. Definitely consider wearing warm underclothes and dressing with layers (sweaters, shawls, scarfs), and if it’s not windy, the right wardrobe should keep you toasty enough to enjoy an outdoor session even this time of year.

Thank you, M & G, for inviting me to capture this exciting time in your lives! I look forward to seeing you again down the line with your new addition to the family!
