Hard to believe summer has come to a close and fall is now upon us. With the crisper air, shorter days, and emerging autumn colors, fewer beach sessions are on the calendar, but there’s still a quiet beauty to these oceanside spots at season’s end, with the warm light raking low over the dunes and the crowds having thinned.

I had a great time meeting with the C. family again, after having photographed a previous session with this trio a couple years back at the Colby Farm sunflowers. With a new little bundle on the way, mom and dad were excited to document their evolving family and the dawn of something new. One of the perks of being a family portrait photographer is being invited to witness and document the chapters of a family’s growth and change. And for a family, by working with the same photographer if possible, there’s a visual continuity year to year in the story when captured by the same eye. With repeat sessions, everyone is already familiar and comfortable with one another, which makes for more relaxed and intimate moments in front of the camera.
