Maudslay Park Engagement Proposal Portrait Session

NEWBURYPORT, MA ENGAGEMENT PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHER

What started out as a couples portrait session became so much more in Newburyport’s Maudslay Park. When M. initially contacted me, her intention was to schedule an afternoon portrait session with her boyfriend, K., along with their four-legged friend in tow. This was to be a quiet afternoon together, enjoying the color and warmth of autumn’s last days in a quintessential New England setting.

That’s when K. contacted me on the sly, sharing his intent to propose to M. during this session and capture the moment in pictures. This was to be a surprise proposal, without M. having any idea of the big reveal to come. I suggested to K. we spend the first forty-five minutes of the session as M. originally planned — strolling through Maudslay with their German Shepard. And then, I’d cue K. with a phrase agreed upon beforehand, signaling that the time had come to propose, and that I was ready to roll with the cameras.

Surprise proposals are especially rewarding to photograph because there’s so much energy and emotion inherent in the moment. The expressions are authentic and unprompted, and even with a photographer a mere feet away, a couple will completely forget about their surroundings and disappear into their joy.
