COVID-19, SOCIAL DISTANCING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Can I still book a portrait session during this time of social distancing?

Yes, you can — with limitations. Like with many other services and businesses, COVID-19 has had an impact on portrait photography, restricting the opportunity to schedule sessions this early spring. Previously scheduled group events, such as weddings, are also being postponed as couples rightfully move their celebration to later this year or the next. But as the weather warms, there are questions about the availability of portrait photography as we enter late spring and summer.

What type of session or event can I book for now?

  • First, consider a Gift Certificate. If the circumstances are still not right for you or your family to book a session for now or for a specific date, but you would still love to surprise someone with a session, consider gifting them a certificate for use at a later date. Gift Certificates can be put toward any type of portrait session. Simply choose the portrait package you’d like to gift, and the certificate will be sent directly to your recipient or to you to present to them.

  • Small immediate families, seniors, headshots, individuals, maternity, engagements, and private elopements can still book a session for now, so long as the session is outdoors in a non-crowded location that has not been locked down or closed. Sessions outside in your yard or in nature parks are great, private options. There still remains the key requirement of maintaining a safe social distance, and I use a 70-200mm telephoto lens to maintain such distances while we work together.

  • Group events — weddings, house parties, birthdays, reunions, big family groups — are currently not being scheduled through August. You can still book these events in advance for the fall, though such events may be subject to postponement if state restrictions are still in place.

For today’s image share, here’s a headshot portrait session I photographed in downtown Newburyport. B & M reached out to me to update their headshots for their business marketing materials, and they were familiar with my work because I photographed their son’s senior portraits the year prior. I always love reconnecting and collaborating with repeat clients! This shoot is a great example of the type of session you can book today — again, so long as we work in an outdoor, non-crowded location, and I use lenses that allow us to maintain proper social distancing.

Though this has been an unusual time, my family and I have been enjoying the chance to spend some extra time together at home. Likewise, I hope you’ve been able to do the same. Stay well and please reach out to me if I can be of help in any way!
