Warmer weather brings more opportunity for outdoor photo sessions! And Downtown Newburyport, always a favorite, is the perfect location for headshots, with its variety of settings all in one walkable spot: historical brick buildings, green parks, and seaside pier. When shooting your headshot, the background will typically be soft and out of focus, with the emphasis placed on you. At the same time, it’s still important to consider the background and decide if there’s a benefit to incorporating your surroundings in the photograph. For example, if your headshot will be part of a larger business branding effort, we’ll want to consider if the setting compliments the aesthetics of your messaging or brand. Would you like to project a contemporary or urban feel? Or would an environment that is organic and comforting be more appropriate for your needs and values? Indoor settings also work great, such as if you own an eatery, art studio, or shop. And keep in mind “headshots” need not always be vertical compositions limited to the shoulders and above.
